We are excited to announce that effective July 1, 2019, Abilities United officially becomes affiliated with Gatepath, making the newly combined nonprofit the largest providers of services to individuals with developmental disabilities based in the Peninsula. Both organizations share a common mission and vision for the future: ensuring those we serve achieve their full potential and are included in all aspects of our community – from the classroom to the workplace.
Joining together will allow both organizations to leverage and streamline existing administrative and support functions, allowing more resources to be focused on programs and our staff. Gatepath and Abilities United proactively pursued this merger opportunity; it is an important action that helps the combined organization mitigate some of the challenges posed by the increasing costs of doing business in the Bay Area, coupled with more than $1 billion in funding cuts to California’s disabilities system over the last decade. As a result of this merger, we believe we will be better positioned to continue investing in our staff and quality programs for the families, children and adults we serve.
As you may know, Gatepath is primarily based in San Mateo County and Abilities United primarily serves Santa Clara County. Together, with 13 locations, the combining of our organizations will be incredibly advantageous to the individuals and families we serve and provide more opportunities for our dedicated team. We will be able to share resources, expand programs and deepen our employment and community partnerships. It will provide an opportunity to more efficiently scale our administrative functions, allowing additional resources to be dedicated to direct care professionals and the important programs they provide.
We are better together!
Bryan Neider will be the CEO of the combined organization. Over the next several months, we will provide regular updates on our progress. Our teams are committed to our shared vision and have already been working together to ensure a smooth transition.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our mission of acceptance, respect and inclusion. We are excited about the future!
