Employment Specialist / Independent Living Skills Instructor
Full or part time

This individual will promote and market Employment Services in the community and provide training throughout the year, as well as provide on-going monitoring of clients' health and safety. The ES Specialist/Independent Living Skills Instructor will maintain regular communication with individuals concerned with their client including family, work supervisor and Regional Center Case Manager. They will also serve as case manager for consumers and train, supervise and support assigned consumers. Successful completion of all required paperwork, billing and reports and the ability to assist consumers in their work are required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School or equivalent required; BA/BS in Social Services preferred .

Experience: Minimum 1 year experience working with persons that have developmental disabilities, preferably within residential and/or independent living situations.

Certification: CPR & First Aid - may be obtained after hire.

Other: Communicate clearly & effectively, verbally and in writing, project a professional & positive image at all times. Valid California Driverís License and a safe driving record. Must be able to provide proof of good driving record during the interview process. Willingness to be flexible in shift schedule assignments.

Pre Employment Requirements: At Abilities United's expense, clearance with the Department of Justice by completing a background check consisting of having fingerprints processed by appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Post Employment Requirements: Physical, 2-step Tb test clearance. Maintain all job related certification requirements.

ESA Evaluator

Part Time – less than 29.5 hrs/week/Non- Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. BA/BS in Social Services preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 yrs. working with developmentally disabled, preferably in rehabilitation setting, familiarity with mobility training.
Substitution: Combination of High School Diploma or equivalent & 4 + years experience in lieu.

Duties include:

* schedule & coordinate consumer assessments

* assess consumers vocational strengths, interests & abilities in a variety of settings

* provide clear written reports to funding & referral sources in a timely fashion

* assess consumers work tolerance & other areas to determine severity of disability

* interact with current employers & potential employers in maintaining & procuring work sites at which assessments will be conducted

* comply with Client’s Rights, AU & program policies, all agency & program procedures

* maintain filing system & ESA related records

* present a professional image while working with consumers in the community

* attend interdisciplinary meetings as required or necessary

* track billing for the program and submit to program manager each month

* provide documentation as needed

* cross train in Adult Services Programs

* arrange annual meeting with families and Regional Center case managers one month prior to client birthdays

Swim Instructor  -  Part-time Swim Instructor needed to provide swim lessons for individuals of all ages with and without developmental and other disabilities. 2 years aquatic instruction, 1 year working with individuals with disabilities preferred. Strong swim skills and experience teaching aquatics classes and knowledge of body mechanics may replace experience. Lifeguard certification required.

Adapted Instructor

Part Time
Lifeguard certified experienced swim instructors to teach swim lessons to different individuals with disabilities.

Parent Tot Instructor

Part Time
Swim Instructor to lead parents and their children in water play. College degree in Kinesiology, Adapted P.E., EarlyChildhood, Therapeutic Recreation, or any other related degree preferred; a combination of education and related experience may be considered. A minimum of 1 year of formal aquatics training working with children with disabilities preferred.

Developmental Specialist I or II
Bilingual English/Spanish
Full or part-time

Job duties include participation in and/or leading developmental groups, completing evaluations and reports in the areas of cognition, language, social and self- care skills, providing case management services to children and families in program, and participating in staff meetings.

Physical requirements include kneeling and crawling and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Developmental Specialist 1 - Education: Min. BA in Early Childhood Special Education or related field. Combination of education and directly related experience may be substituted for a degree at manager's discretion.

Developmental Specialist 2 - MA or Ed.11 in Social Work, Child Development or related field. ECSE credential or MA in Special Ed. preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 1 year experience working with children with disabilities, and/or young children is required. Experience with families and with planning intervention is preferred.

Other: Bilingual Spanish speaking required.

Occupational Therapist

DUTIES:

Full-time (30-40 hours) self-motivated Licensed Occupational Pathologist to provide in-home OT services for children age birth to 3 years with varying diagnoses, in our Early Intervention Program.  Experience working with disabled at-risk infants preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  BS/MS
Experience: Minimum 2 years working with disabled at-risk infants preferred

Respite Services

Home Companion - Part time and full time positions

Provide in-home care and companionship to people with developmental disabilities. The position requires some week days hours, as well as evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: HS diploma or equivalent required; AA/BA preferred.
Experience: Minimum 6 months working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Substitution: College course work in related field may replace experience
Certification: Standard 1st Aid with Adult, Child, & Infant CPR
Other: Successful completion of all trainee requirements, communicate clearly & effectively, verbally & in writing, project a professional & positive image at all times. Clean DMV record and current automobile insurance required.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift & transfer individuals who weigh up to 150 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to push, in a wheelchair, individuals who weigh up to 150 lbs. - occasionally.
