Job Options

If an individual placement is most appropriate, you will start the job development process. Local employers will be contacted and partnerships will be established in an effort to place you in a well-matched job. You will receive one-on-one support and training in areas like resume writing, interview and job search techniques, proper attire and grooming, and co-worker and supervisor relationship building.

As an individually placed employee, you’ll work independently for a local employer. A Abilities United job coach will support you until you stabilize in your position, assisting your training and adjustment to your new work environment.

If a group work environment is most appropriate for you, you’ll work on one of our teams established with community employers. You’ll receive 100% on-the-job support and training from one of our supervisors and work alongside fellow Abilities United clients.

How to Get Started

To benefit from Abilities United's Employment Services, please contact us directly at: (650) 618-3302 or (650) 618-3303 or email Employment Services . Or ask your Department of Rehabilitation counselor about us.

Depending on your experience and job goals,

  1. You'll go through an external situational assessment (ESA) . Your skills, job needs, motivation and work behaviors will be assessed in one or more work locations that match your interests.
  2. A recommendation is made as to which job and employment situation is appropriate for you.
  3. Begin the job development process with a job coach.
  4. When you are placed in a job, a job coach will support you until you stabilize in your position, assisting your training and adjustment to your new work environment.

You may also receive personal, vocational, and social adjustment training (PVSA) if you need more focused development in areas such as appropriate work behavior, mobility training, or money management. This service can help you build the skills and awareness to either get a job or retain employment.
